NSC Workshop - SSbD scenarios for advanced and incremental innovations
The NSC Workshop on SSbD scenarios for advanced and incremental innovations will take place on 23 June 2025 (12:00–15:00 CEST, online) as a collaborative effort among several EU-funded projects: SUNRISE, AlChemiSSt, DESIDERATA and PLANETS.
The event focuses on refining the Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) approach by developing structured innovation scenarios tailored to different professional environments, sectors, and innovation levels. Participants will be able to discuss key aspects of SSbD based on real-world case studies.
Among the case studies presented, one will be provided by SUNRISE in collaboration with our partner Laurentia.
Topics:
The first workshop in June 2025 will examine key aspects that shape early innovation stage scenarios, using real-world cases contributed by innovators from the participating EU projects. Discussions will focus on defining relevant parameters, such as company type (start-up, SME, or industry), sector of application (B2B vs. B2C), level of innovation (incremental or advanced), R&D budget, and other early-stage knowledge that precedes experimental work.
A follow-up workshop in September/October 2025 will refine these insights to develop archetypical SSbD scenarios and their corresponding tailored approaches

NMBP-16 Projects Public Final Event
For the past four years, the EU-funded Horizon 2020 NMBP-16 projects – DIAGONAL, HARMLESS and SUNSHINE – have been addressing the call topic “Safe by design, from science to regulation: multi-component nanomaterials” and have been working closely together on the challenges related to safe and sustainable multicomponent nanomaterials.
As they are now coming to an end, they are organising their Public Final Event on 25 September 2024, from 14:30 to 16:00h CEST in Venice (Italy) at the Centro Culturale Don Orione Artigianelli (ONSITE ONLY).
This dynamic 90-minute session, held as satellite event of the NanoTox 2024 conference, will showcase the ambitious goals and key achievements of the three projects.
Attendees will get an overview of the objectives and core elements of each one of the projects, as well as their complementary perspectives. In addition, participants will gain insight into key features, main results, special focus topics, and case studies of each individual project will be presented and discussed.
Don’t miss this opportunity to dive into the in-depth discussions with a broad group of stakeholders on the future of safe and sustainable multicomponent nanomaterials!
